September 2003

Dear Sir/Madam

Enclosed is the draw for the Region 6 section of the English Schools Basketball Championships.

The main rules for your attention are shown elsewhere, but should there be any queries, or if any problems arise, please contact me immediately on the number shown above.

In the ‘B’ Competitions, schools may like to consider playing matches in the form of a 1 day tournament. If any school would like to offer to organise their leagues in this format, please contact me.

It is hoped to publish results periodically on the south west basketball web site;

www.southwestbasketball.co.uk

Yours sincerely

Tony Malley

(Competitions Secretary)

Games are to be played according to the rules in the ESBBA Handbook, but particular attention should be paid to the following.
1 The COMPETITION DRAW shows
a Match number
b The teams concerned - the first team is the home team
c The play by date

2 FIXTURES. Teams have an equal responsibility for arranging matches. They are to be played by the date shown in the draw. If for any reason this is not possible a request for an extension must be made to the Competitions Secretary so that future opponents can be informed.

3 REFEREES. Neutral referees should be provided. However, in some cases this is not possible. If neutral officials are not available, the visiting team must be informed of this in advance. It may be possible for each team to provide one official . Asking the visiting coach to referee the game is not acceptable.

4 TABLE OFFICIALS. These should be experienced and competent

5 RESULTS. The WINNING team must inform me of the result. Telephone, fax or e-mail the result on the day of the match then post the scoresheet the following day OR fax the scoresheet within 24 hours.

6 COURTS. In some cases playing areas do not measure the minimum standards as noted in the rules. If this affects you and you have a home game inform your opponents. If they object, try to obtain an alternative court. If this is not possible, contact me. All play off games must be played on a full size court.

7 REFRESHMENTS should be provided for visitors, especially where a long journey has been involved.

8 If the colours of both teams are similar, the HOME team will change

9 Schools/associations are responsible for the behaviour of their players and spectators. Teams must be accompanied by a member of staff from their school.

10 Should a coach be disqualified from a game and another teacher is not available to take his/her place, the team shall forfeit the game.

11 LEAGUE POINTS. Points will be awarded as follows. Win 2 pts Loss 1 pt Default 0pt. If teams are level on league points the following will be taken into account to break the tie *The score between the teams concerned then*Points difference then*Points scored then*points allowed
